Winter is here. Now, with the temperatures dropping we really dress. And cosiness is of the utmost importance in this cold weather, of course depending on winter temperatures in your specific region. 

Apart from mixing textures and layering fabrics for warmth I think the most important layer in your winter outfit is your top layer, as this is the first layer anyone can see on you straight away. 

The goal here is to choose something that is warm, comfortable and stylish at the same time, but most importantly something that will last for years to come to avoid reinvesting into the same piece of clothing over and over. And of course (I hear you…) it should be reasonable in terms of price, without jeopardising on quality. Generally speaking you would want something to last you for 5-10 years of good wear, covering most occasions, meaning work and out of work situations. 

This is where the knowledge of macro (i.e. long lasting) trends is important as you would want to invest your hard earned money only into something that is worth your while and that you can enjoy for some time. Besides, who has the time to shop over and over just to replace pieces that are outdated or worn out due to questionable quality. 

But do not worry as I have done all the work for you. You do not need to spend hours on the Internet researching the latest trends and figuring out which ones to stay or which ones to go. Or buying new clothes just to realise they are not of the best quality and do not last for long. You have got a busy life and probably have a lot on your plate already, juggling everything and anything from work to your family commitments. 

That is why I put together a quick video of 5 winter options from Zara, I would recommend as a personal stylist, that are worth investing in. Watch it HERE now…

It is not a secret that Zara is an affordable high street retail chain that is known for its modern designs and low prices, although these ‘low’ prices have been going up and up over the last few years. However, I have been picking a lot of clothes for my clients from Zara stores all over the world, for at least over the last 10 years, which gives me a good insight into quality items to choose from the array of clothes they have to offer. You can say that I have an ‘upper hand’ in terms of knowing what will work best and live long, so to speak. 

Please note that in this video I have picked some current but quality pieces at a fraction of cost for you, as if you were to buy these items from any designer store it would cost you sometimes up to 10 times more.

What is the most scarce resource in a working woman’s life? ….Time of course. And if you are in this category I want to make everything possible to make your life easier, not harder.

Let me guess here, as a working woman you probably want to keep your wardrobe utterly classic and chic, with the minimal effort right? Well, that is why I have put together for you a quick update on trends you can incorporate in your professional wardrobe straight away, saving you time and energy searching the Internet.

1. MAXI

This Autumn 2022 season hemlines definitely dropped right to the floor, as seen in Yves Saint Laurent ready to wear collection, featuring impressive floor-sweeping lengths this season. The straight wide leg will definitely give you the comfort of movement throughout your busy day at work and WFH included!. Just pair it with a blouse or sweater for a sleek autumn look. It’s that easy!

Similar floor-sweeping creations were also spotted in Peter Do, Kwaidan Editions and Tod collections. 
These maxi skirt lengths look equally great when paired with a blazer, long jacket, white shirt, T-shirt,  casual sweater or cardigan, making it super wearable for daytime.

2. MINI

To counteract the long hemlines designers also featured above-the-knee hemlines in tailored pieces, such as mini skirts as seen at Versace, Fendi and Jil Sander. To keep your workwear look cool and professional it is best to pair them with blazers for a polished office look.

3. CAMEL TONES

As I always say, classics never goes out of style and strong presence of classic warm caramel tones on all major runways this Autumn 2022 season is proof. From tailored jackets, bodycon dresses and bodysuits to mixed-media trenches, you can not go wrong with classic camel tones in your wardrobe.

4. OVERSIZED SHOULDERS

We see a suiting trend each season and this Autumn 2022 suits continued to show oversized blazers with widened shoulder lines as seen at LV, Prada, Gucci and Sportmax. Although it might look like something your dad might wear to the office, this relaxed and oversized trend look extremely comfortable yet daring.

5. SLOPPING SLEEVE

A slopping sleeve trend also stays strong this Autumn 2022 season and looks particularly cozy in outer wear  as seen in Rick Owens and Dries Van Noten collections.

6. EXTREME COLOUR

Valentino impressed with a very strong colour statement in hot pink, which is traced throughout the whole collection. Impressively enough, this intense, magenta colour was named as “Pink PP,” and introduced as a new Pantone colour created by Pierpaolo Piccioli (creative director of Valentino ) himself. This ‘monotone’ colour palette was specifically selected to remove distractions and concentrate the viewers’ eyes on distinguishing the differences between silhouette and detail. Definitely for a brave professional woman!

7. EVERYDAY BASICS

When it comes to the everyday, there were some basics showing a less-is-more mentality featuring tailored and fitted suits, skirts, slip dresses, and an overwhelming number of white easy button-down shirts, sophisticated t-shirts and tank tops styled with black trousers or medium-wash jeans.

8. LEATHER-ON-LEATHER 

Full supple leather-on-leather look was particularly strong this season, featuring new colour palette with pink and purple notes as seen on Prada and Bottega Veneta runways. A new Power look indeed for a strong professional woman!

Obviously these are not the only trends that have emerged this season but I tried to select the ones that are more reasonable and wearable for a professional woman.

Whether you work in a corporate office or if you are your own girl boss CEO, a pair of grey pleated pants are a new business chic essential in every woman’s wardrobe. 

A chic, floor-length, understated and minimalistic pair of well-tailored trousers is a hero piece you can count on! Easy to style and wear, it is a sure way to dress to impress in the workplace or after-hours activities. 

Now whether your trousers are high-waist or they sit at the hips, these trousers work with almost anything. The best way to wear pleated pants is on the loose side. If they are too tight, the pleats will pull and it won’t look as easy going.

Wondering what to pair them with? Wear them with a basic T-shirt or a button-down. You can rock this ensemble anywhere and look chic while you’re doing it. 

To make it simple, I’ve attached a video, which outlines 7 simple ways to style one pair of high waist pleated grey pants. Create multiple looks for different occasions whether it is formal or casual. I hope you find it helpful. Also, check out the video to see how I would wear each look!

1. SWEATER

The straight wide leg will definitely give you the comfort of movement throughout your busy day at work and WFH included!. Just pair it with a blouse or sweater for a sleek spring look. It’s that easy! 

2. COLOUR

Another way to wear your grey high waisted pleated pants is to pair it with a burgundy T-shirt. Also great for spring! I love this colour combination as it makes this outfit more interesting. 

Don’t be afraid to bring colour in your outfits even if it is for your corporate or business look. Adding accessories like a belt, watch or a black folder will still keep it business-like and professional. 

3. CLASSIC

Pairing your favourite grey high waisted pleated pants with a black turtleneck is such a great classic look that never goes out of fashion. 

BUT proportions matter!

The 2 classic pieces above (grey pants and a black long sleeve roll neck top) definitely go well together due to the outfit proportions. 
 

The rule of thumb, and it always works, is to go fitted on top and loose at the bottom or vice versus. 

For example, in this classic outfit, the pleated pants have a straight wide leg and a loose-fitting to the pant. The way to balance it out is to wear something fitted on top. Otherwise, if you wear something equally loose on top this could potentially make you look bigger than you actually are.

This is something definitely to keep in mind when putting your outfits together. 

4. T-SHIRT

Long gone are the days when you could wear suit pants only with a jacket or blouse. 

Think modern business suiting, and channel your modern-day business lady by pairing your favourite grey pleated pants with a white structured shoulder t-shirt. This grey and white colour combination works well in all seasons and is easy to pull off.

Both pieces look sophisticated and elegant when paired together, thanks to clean lines and a simple silhouette. Have you ever thought that a White T-Shirt can become a part of modern business attire? No? Me neither :).

But by all means, go bold and creative and mix and match different colours for a more daring look.

5. LEATHER

Want to make a statement? Then adding a leather jacket will definitely do just that. The easiest way to change a look or add a different vibe to your outfit is to add a classic biker jacket. 

The leather jacket is an essential piece of clothing for every wardrobe. With a leather jacket, you can dress up or dress down any outfit and still look effortlessly stylish. 

It is easy to wear a leather jacket, pair it with feminine garments, like loose pants, a pleated skirt, a little black dress, or even a mini skirt if you like, and a white T-shirt. Follow us on @Instagram for more inspiration.

6. LEATHER AGAIN …

This time I pair my leather jacket with classic leather heels, high-waisted pleated pants, and a classic black turtleneck. You can also wear it with a black T-shirt or a black top of your choice. 

This combo adds a rock star edge to a classic look.

7. CRISP WHITE SHIRT 

No wardrobe is complete without a perfect crisp white shirt.

It’s such a versatile piece and a wardrobe staple that can be worn everywhere and can literally be paired with anything. It’s the real deal as it looks just as good with your work trousers as it does with your weekend jeans. Whether yours is made from crisp cotton or luxurious silk, the tailored shape of a button-down shirt makes any outfit feel instantly elegant. 

The white cotton shirt I’m wearing is cut for a more relaxed fit, with a wider and longer cuff of the sleeve. This gives it a more interesting look compared to the standard white shirt. Tucked into these trousers, it gives the overall outfit more of a put-together look.
