    Make Your Outfits Stand Out

Colour contrast is about how one colour stands out from another. You can use colour contrast to make your outfits stand out and become more interesting and fun.

    Colour palette example…

If you’re wondering what colours go with blue to create an elegant outfit, beige is always the right answer. Navy and beige combine particularly well to make a polished look in this outfit.

For the office, beige and blue are also a perfect choice, regardless of your industry. They work well in corporate, creative, and casual settings. Whether it’s beige trousers or an overall beige trouser suit, pairing it with a blue top will always look serious and fashionable.

Add a pop of colour by wearing a pair of shoes in coral, pink, red or even bright yellow to add some contrast and interest to your outfit.

  • Is a Capsule Wardrobe Right for You?

Is a Capsule Wardrobe Right for You?

You have probably heard about the capsule wardrobe concept at some point in your life. But what exactly is a capsule wardrobe, and why is everybody talking about it? And most importantly is a capsule wardrobe right for you?

A capsule wardrobe is a small selection of interchangeable clothing pieces that can be easily mixed and matched together, complementing each other. This is usually achieved by buying what are considered “key” or “staple” items in coordinating colours.

But is it right for you?

Well, that’s a good question. Before answering this for yourself, let me first debunk some common myths about capsule wardrobes and what they are not.

Myth #1: Capsule Wardrobes Are Too Limiting

Although originally derived from the concept of having only a few pieces to mix and match, the number of items in a capsule wardrobe can vary depending on your lifestyle and the amount of clothing you need for different areas of your life. A capsule wardrobe can have as many or as few clothes as work for you. There is no golden number of pieces to have in your capsule wardrobe. You can have 7 pieces, 27 pieces, or even 37 pieces. As long as it suits both your style and lifestyle, you can build an efficient capsule wardrobe based on your needs.

Myth #2: Capsule Wardrobes Are Boring

On the contrary, capsule wardrobes promote creativity. They allow you to be more creative with your outfits since all your versatile pieces can be mixed and matched, enabling you to create many different looks with just a few items.

For example, take a basic blue shirt: you can dress it up with a tailored skirt and heels for a professional look, or dress it down with jeans and kitten heels or flats for a smart-casual look, or with jeans and sneakers for a casual look. Having a few versatile pieces can be fun and inspiring once you begin playing with how you mix and match them.

Myth #3: Capsule Wardrobes Are Only for Minimalists

People often think you must get rid of everything in your wardrobe and only have a few essential pieces in plain colours to have a capsule wardrobe. But it does not have to be so drastic. If you love prints and patterns, there’s no reason why you cannot have printed pieces in your capsule wardrobe, as long as you choose prints and patterns that combine well with other pieces.

For example, you could add animal print garments that fit in and gel nicely with the black and brown pieces you already have.

Myth #4: Capsule Wardrobes Have to Be Neutral and Classic

A capsule wardrobe can look different for everyone. And it certainly doesn’t have to be all  classic blazers, white T-shirts, and black pants. You can introduce more colour and more styles into it, as long as the garments in your capsule wardrobe are interchangeable and work well together. If your capsule wardrobe differs from those standard classic images you see online, it doesn’t mean it doesn’t work for you; it just means it works for your individual style and life.

For example, if you like wearing colour, you can still create a capsule wardrobe that is colourful and fun, or go for a creative or romantic look—whatever your personal style is. Having a capsule wardrobe is simply a way to streamline your wardrobe and style.

Myth #5: Capsule Wardrobes Are Expensive

You do not need to spend a lot of money to look good. You just need to know what works for you and have a good selection of clothes that suit your lifestyle and budget. I recommend investing in the best quality pieces (within your budget) that last for years, to avoid constantly replacing cheaply made fast fashion pieces that fall apart after a few wears. In short, you are buying quality rather than quantity. Buy less but better!

Now that I’ve dispelled these common myths for you, do you think a capsule wardrobe is for you? Do you want to know how to create it? I can show you the 8-step formula for creating the perfect capsule wardrobe. You will also get a capsule wardrobe guide, giving you more control over the items you include, plus ready-to-use capsule wardrobes personally curated by me so you can jump-start your style!

  • 2024 Australian Fashion Week Highlights: What They Mean For You

2024 Australian Fashion Week Highlights: What They Mean For You

Australian Fashion Week (AFW) is not only the largest and most influential fashion event in the Asia-Pacific but also a source of inspiration that can significantly impact your personal style. This annual event showcases the latest trends and designs from some of the most talented designers in Australia and worldwide. Style-And-You is here to digest the Australian Fashion Week highlights and what they mean for you.

Here’s how Australian Fashion Week can influence your style:

    1. Inspiration from Runway Shows: The runway shows at AFW are a spectacle of cutting-edge fashion. They feature avant-garde designs, unique silhouettes, and innovative styling ideas that can inspire you to experiment with your wardrobe. Whether it’s bold colours, unconventional patterns, or unexpected combinations, these runway looks can ignite your creativity and encourage you to step out of your style comfort zone.

    2. Access to Emerging Designers: AFW provides a platform for emerging designers to showcase their talent. By exploring up-and-coming designer collections, you can discover new brands and styles that resonate with your personal taste. Supporting emerging designers not only adds a unique flair to your wardrobe but also helps you stay ahead of the fashion curve.

    3. Street Style Trends: The streets outside the fashion week venues are as much a runway as the catwalk itself. Fashion influencers, editors, and celebrities showcase their personal style, creating a melting pot of trends and ideas. Observing street style during AFW can give you insights into the latest fashion trends and how to incorporate them into your everyday looks.

    4. Networking & Collaboration Opportunities: AFW brings together fashion professionals, bloggers, influencers, and enthusiasts from around the world. Attending the event or following it online can connect you with like-minded individuals who share your passion for fashion and style or simply connect you to a community of fashion enthusiasts to engage with and learn from.

    5. Access to Exclusive Collections: AFW often features exclusive collections and limited-edition pieces not available elsewhere. By watching the event, you can get early access to these collections and add unique pieces to your wardrobe that set you apart from the mainstream fashion scene.

Here are some highlights from Day 2 of AFW, specifically from the ACLER runway show that I attended on May 14, 2024.

The Acler Resort’25 collection was truly timeless, modern, tailored, and feminine! It showcased quality textiles and masterful draping techniques in all pieces, crafted to transcend trends. I particularly loved their classic silhouettes with a burst of colour and modern updates that harness couture techniques, as well as luxurious finishings.

Watch below the full download of the ACLER Resort’25 Collection right from the front rows.

In conclusion, Australian Fashion Week is not just a showcase of the latest trends; it’s a source of inspiration and a catalyst for personal style evolution. Whether you’re looking to refresh your wardrobe, experiment with new styles, or simply soak in the creativity of the fashion world, Australian Fashion Week offers a wealth of opportunities to elevate your style game.
